Why We Chose Crowdfunding to Launch Firefly

Bringing a product like Firefly to life — a hands-free, helmet-mounted LED turn signal — takes more than a good idea. It takes time, resources, community support, and a belief that people actually want what you’re building. That’s why we chose crowdfunding to launch our product “Firefly”, and not a traditional go-to-market strategy.

Here’s why that decision made sense for us — and why it matters to the people who believe in what we’re building.

We Wanted to Build With, Not Just For, the Community

Firefly was born from a very personal need: we didn’t feel safe letting our kids ride to school. And the more we talked to other families and urban commuters, the more we realized that this was a shared concern.
Crowdfunding allows us to involve real people from day one. Backers become part of the journey — not just buyers, but contributors. Their feedback shapes what we build, how we improve it, and how we grow.

That’s why we’re sharing behind-the-scenes content, design decisions, and development updates — because we want to be held accountable and grow Firefly with a community that cares as much as we do.

Validation Without Compromise

We could’ve looked for traditional investment early on — but with that often comes pressure to scale too fast or cut corners to please shareholders.

Through Indiegogo, we can validate demand and get honest market feedback without compromising on what matters most to us: safety, design quality, and user experience. Every backer is a vote of trust, not just a number on a spreadsheet.

It’s also an honest way to test if the product resonates globally. If we can prove that people all over the world want Firefly, then we know we’re on the right path — with or without corporate backing.

It Makes the Product More Accessible

By launching through crowdfunding, we can offer early bird pricing, perks, and special bundles that wouldn’t be possible in a traditional retail rollout. It rewards early adopters and gives them something exclusive — and in return, it helps us fund our first production run.

It’s a win–win that makes Firefly more accessible from the very beginning.
It’s also a way to lower the barrier of entry. People who support the campaign aren’t just buying a product — they’re shaping how and when it reaches the market, and that ownership makes the experience more meaningful.

We’re Still a Startup — and That’s OK

We’re proud of being a small team with a big mission. Crowdfunding isn’t just a way to raise money; it’s a way to stay transparent, to tell our story openly, and to grow in a sustainable way with our community behind us.

We’re not just launching a product. We’re launching a movement toward smarter, safer urban mobility — one light at a time.
We may not have the marketing budgets of big tech companies, but we have something better — authenticity. We’re building something we believe in, and crowdfunding lets us do that while staying close to the people we’re building it for.

If you believe in visibility, safety, and innovation for cyclists and e-scooter riders, we’d love to have you with us.
