From June 24 to 29, Portuguese startup Thowra presented its first product, Firefly, at Eurobike 2025 in Frankfurt — the leading European event for cycling and urban mobility. The innovative device drew significant attention and received highly positive feedback from both professionals and users.
Firefly is a helmet-mounted, hands-free LED signaling system that allows cyclists and scooter users to signal turns and braking using only head movements. No buttons, no distractions — just intuitive, visible communication that helps riders stay safer in traffic.
Simple, Functional, and Safety-Driven
Throughout the five days of the event, the THOWRA team showcased Firefly to hundreds of visitors. The product stood out for its simplicity and practicality, surprising many with how seamless the interaction felt.

Several attendees expressed immediate interest in purchasing a unit, but only prototypes were available for demonstration at the event. Still, the level of enthusiasm confirmed the strong market potential for the device.
“Firefly’s objective is not to be touched or even thought of once you press the power button, you just turn it on and let your head movement handle the rest. It’s intuitive, discreet, and effective,” said Artur Matos, Thowra’s CEO.
One of the most appreciated features was the fully button-free operation once the device is turned on, offering a solution that’s both elegant and user-friendly — especially for urban commuters.

A Portuguese Startup with Global Ambition
THOWRA is based in Oiã, Aveiro, and Firefly marks its entry into the market. The product is set to be manufactured entirely in-house, with a six-person team behind the project.
Eurobike 2025 was a key milestone in THOWRA’s international expansion strategy, with Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark identified as priority markets. The startup is currently open to both direct-to-consumer sales and B2B partnerships with retailers and distributors.
Now Live on Indiegogo
Following THOWRA debut at Eurobike, Firefly is now available for pre-order via an active crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The campaign aims to raise €23,000, which will fund the first production batch and help bring the product to market with the required scale and quality.
All campaign backers benefit from exclusive launch discounts, and early supporters play a crucial role in bringing this safety-focused innovation to life.
